Catherine Russell
Vocalist Catherine Russell is a native New Yorker, born into musical royalty. Her father, the late Luis Russell, was a legendary pianist / composer / bandleader, and Louis Armstrong's long-time musical director.
Her mother, the late Carline Ray, was a pioneering vocalist / guitarist / bassist who performed with International Sweethearts of Rhythm, Mary Lou Williams, and Sy Oliver.
Catherine’s professional life began early. After graduating with honors from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, she toured and recorded with Carrie Smith, Steely Dan, David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Michael Feinstein, Levon Helm, Toshi Reagon and Rosanne Cash, among others, appearing on over 200 albums.

At Reel to Reel Haven Studio, we're always recording straight to tape! There's no un-do button in here.
Our Recording Process
Our recording process is 100% analog, maintaining the original wave form from microphone to your very own ¼ inch master tape copy.
Traveling from the mic’s through our SSL AWS 924 Delta console, to the 2 inch Otari MX-80, the signal never touches a digital interface.
The original recording is then mastered to a ½ inch 2 track Otari MTR-10 with brand new Flux Magnetics heads.
From there, ¼ master tape copies are produced on one of several Studer and Otari ¼ mastering tape recorders.
